Description
I was asked to design a series of posters for a short film by Alex George, a budding filmmaker and recent graduate of Kent State University.  The Woman With The Cough follows Daisy, a grieving widow, as a series of mysterious occurrences lead her to confront the dark forces threatening her livelihood.  I produced two posters; one which was more illustrative in nature, and another which utilized still images from the film itself.
Process
I drew inspiration from graphic posters of the '70s and '80s, many of which emphasize the relationship between positive and negative space, usually while featuring a limited color palette.
The slides below illustrate several of the concepts that Alex and I discussed.
 Concept 01.
 Concept 02.
 Concept 03.
 Concept 04.
Alex was most drawn to Concept 03—from here, I could begin work in Illustrator.  I altered the composition slightly in order to fill the frame and offer a more compelling use of space.  While the pitcher remains the focal point, I also incorporated the protagonist's silhouette as she sinks through the contents of its interior.  As noted, I experimented with a limited color palette, eventually opting for a near-inverse of that featured in my initial concept.
Below are the final two posters.
